ProgramS Overview
Our Mission
SafeSpace San Mateo County is a youth-driven, prevention and early intervention mental health organization dedicated to empowering teens and young adults to speak openly about mental health, reduce stigma, and build supportive communities. Through peer-led programs, creative media projects, educational workshops, and community engagement, SafeSpace provides free, non-clinical resources that promote well-being, resilience, and self-care.
What We Do
Through innovative initiatives and peer-driven programs, we strive to break down stigma and encourage individuals to speak openly about their experiences. Our approach is rooted in education, support, and empowerment, as we believe that every young adult has the right to access resources and receive assistance when facing mental health challenges.
Book Club
Program overview
SafeSpace Book Club is a fun and engaging place to meet others with a passion for reading where we read and discuss our book of the month as well as other favorites. Each book is focused around mental health, such as self help books on how to cope and hearing about other people's stories. We meet once a month on the first Thursday of the month. We provide the book to borrow, as well as provide snacks.
Our current book
Written by Dr. Bessel Van Der Kolk, the book is based on his own research where he explores how trauma reshapes both the body and the brain, engagement, self control and trust.
